St. Paul United senior goaltender Catherine Johnson announced via Twitter this week she has verbally committed to play for Minnesota Duluth in the fall of 2016.
Johnson, who recently participated in a USA Hockey 2015 Girls U-18 Player Development Camp, is coming off a junior year in which she posted a 2.02 goals-against average and .913 save percentage in 27 games with the United. She backstopped the United to the state tournament as a sophomore, finishing with a 2.27 GAA and .915 save percentage in 26 games that season.
The Bulldogs currently feature three goaltenders on their roster, but Kayla Black and Karissa Grapp are both seniors, meaning new coach Maura Crowell is in search of support for freshman Maddie Rooney.
The Bulldogs women’s team is off this weekend and next weekend. Crowell said Wednesday during her weekly news conference that time will be spent during the break wrapping up their recruiting for the 2016-17 season.
