The Austin Bruins of the North American Hockey League announced their captain, forward Jade Miller out of Minto, N.D. (not Minot), has committed to play for Minnesota Duluth in 2016-17. Miller turns 21 in July.

Miller was second on the Bruins in scoring with 51 points this season and his team-high 29 goals was one short of the franchise record. He only had eight goals and 11 assists a year ago for the Bruins. The Bruins finished third in the NAHL Central Division this season and face Minot in a first round playoff series that begins this weekend.

Miller will be one of three 21-year-old freshmen joining UMD next season along with goaltender Hunter Miska and defenseman Will Campion. Miska signed a National Letter of Intent in the fall while Campion and Miller are expected to have their signings announced soon. The spring signing period began Wednesday.

With Miller’s commitment, the only piece UMD is likely missing now from the 2016-17 roster is a third goaltender.
